Important Update Regarding COVID-19 Westfall Academy School Dismissal

Dear Westfall Academy Families,

As salamu Alaykum

The Monroe County Executive Adam Bello has declared a state of emergency for the County of Monroe because of COVID-19 outbreak. Westfall Academy will follow the Brighton School District school dismissal announcement effective 3/16. This includes all afterschool activities.

The Westfall Academy Education Committee (WAEC) will be meeting weekly to discuss plans for these uncharted and difficult times, I want to assure you that we will be monitoring the evolving situation closely and the health, safety, and welfare of you and your child(ren) is our primary concern.

Westfall Academy will be sharing further information with students and families about distance learning and continued instruction this week. Please check emails for further updates. Please know that although the school premises is no longer open to students, school will still be in session in an online capacity. Therefore, teachers will be working, lessons will be taught and homework will be assigned. Participation in this program will count toward your child’s attendance whereas lack of participation on any given day will count as an absence. Please refer to the New York State Dept of Ed for laws regarding compulsory student attendance: www.p12.nysed.gov/sss/lawsregs/#CompulsoryAttendance

We understand that this situation is stressful, and our hope is that some continued reinforcement of learning would help to provide some structure, but most importantly help to maintain a connection with the classroom.

Over the next three days, our co-Principals and teachers will be working together to prepare materials that will be shared with you and your child. Our goal is to be able to provide continued opportunities for learning while school is closed.

For now, please look for an update on Monday 3/16 afternoon via email from co-Principals.

Thank you and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Asif Iqbal
